SPEECH from Mr. Arief Yahya Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia
Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,
A very good evening to all of you,
Allow me to express my sincere appreciation and warmest greetings to all of you. It is my great pleasure to be here at Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park for the event of Welcome Dinner and Opening Ceremony of Bali and Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF) 2019.
I would also like to express my appreciation to the organizer of Bali and Beyond Travel Fair 2019, for their dedication and consistency in organizing this wonderful event for the past years.
Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,
BBTF is considered to be the leading tourism exhibition in Indonesia. This year, there are 232 Sellers from 3 countries and 17 provinces in Indonesia, and also 303 Buyers from 46 countries participating in this exhibition. Hopefully in the future, BBTF will evolve as one of the major international tourism exhibitions in the region, holding similar status like MATTA Fair in Malaysia and ITB Asia in Singapore, or even the largest travel exhibitions in the world like ITB Berlin and WTM London.
The name of BBTF implies that the exhibition not only promotes Bali as a world class tourism destination, but also builds better promotion of other destinations in Indonesia. Eventually, the tourists will enjoy more diverse attractions and the economic benefits of tourism activities will be distributed in the regions beyond Bali.
Tourism is the biggest contributor to Bali’s economy. The number of international tourist arrivals to Bali in 2018 was recorded at 6 million or an increase of 6,7%, and 9,8 million domestic tourists or an increase of 11,7% compared to those of 2017.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
The theme for this year's Bali and Beyond Travel Fair is "The Journey to Sustainable Tourism." Sustainable Tourism Development has become a world trend for the last few years. Tourism development must consider 3 factors: Environment, Community and Economy.
In other words, tourism development must consider 3P principles: Planet, People, and Prosperity. In regards to these principles, the Ministry of Tourism has conducted three programs, namely Sustainable Tourism Destination (STD) through Indonesia Sustainable Tourism Awards (ISTA), Sustainable Tourism Observatory (STO), and Sustainable Tourism Certification (STC), which focused on 10 Priority Tourism Destinations.
In Bali, we have established Sustainable Tourism Observatory (STO) in Sanur, in cooperation with Udayana University Bali, supported by UNWTO.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Let me conclude my speech by wishing Bali & Beyond Travel Fair 2019 all the best, with fruitful outcomes and beneficial business transactions.
Finally, I declare Bali & Beyond Travel Fair 2019 is officially opened.
Om, Shanti, Shanti, Shanti, Om
Wassalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
