Directed by Heny Janawati, B.Mus, M.Mus., Staccato Bali is a music school whose focus is to encourage excellence in the vocal and performing arts by offering the highest quality vocal instruction and musical preparation to individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and interests and to establish an appreciation and respect for music, particularly the art of singing.
Mezzo-Soprano Heny Janawati, B.Mus, M.Mus, received her degrees from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. She is considered to be the only Balinese to received an operatic training. Heny received her vocal training from some major North American opera singers, such as: Judith Forst, Wendy Nielson, Professor Nancy Hermiston, Stuart Hamilton and Perry Price. She has also attended and sung in vocal masterclasses in North America and Europe. In addition, Heny's performances have been seen by North American and European audiences. She has performed numbers of major opera roles and opera choruses together with the UBC opera, European Music Academy in Czech Republic and COSI centre of opera studies in Italy. Heny's repertoires span from Carmen in Bizet's Carmen to La Zia Principessa in Puccini's Suor Angelica. In her childhood, Heny received her vocal training from her late father, a well-respected Balinese musician, Drs. I.G.B. Ngurah Ardjana. She spent her early years competing and performing at Bali's local and provincial festivals. Before Heny studied classical voice and opera performance, Heny has performed different musical genres including pop songs (Balinese, Indonesian and Western), World folk songs, jazz standards, slow rocks and others. With her experiences in different repertoires, Heny has the knowledge to work with different musical genres. Currently, Heny is enjoying her role as a music lecturer, voice teacher, singer and performer. She is hoping to be able to discover new vocal talents and develop their voices into exceptional singers.
