Bali, Indonesia – Tourism growth in Indonesia was recorded as one of the best in the world and among the top 20 fastest growing travel destination which means that the nation’s growth rate is on par with the global standard. All efforts are choreographed by the Ministry of Tourism and supported by Indonesia’s President who is committed to developing the tourism industry. Tourism has set as the nation’s leading sector, listed in the 2018 government work plan priority on Agriculture, Tourism and Fishery. Indonesia to become a global player by exposing untouched natural wealth, cultural arts and traditions across the country. The government is targeting 4 destinations which are Danau Toba, Borobudur, Mandalika and Labuan Bajo to accommodate the new trend of nomadic tourism, eco-tourism as well as developing the 10 New Bali’s tourist destinations that are expected to par with Bali in attracting foreign tourists.
By 2019, the Ministry of Tourism has set the target to drive Indonesia to become a top 30 nations in the world (an increase of 12 levels) amongst all 141 nations in the Travel & Tourism Competitive Index by the World Economic Forum. By securing a position in the top 30, we will receive global recognition as a leading destination in the world. Tourism is destined to become the backbone of Indonesia’s economy. This year, there are three main focuses for the ministry namely; covering digital tourism, developing a tourist village homestay program and creating greater air travel accessibility. By focusing on these aspects, we will have the required leverage to boost our TTCI level. The change of trend itself is the move from holiday destination to a balance of work and leisure – we respond positively the growth of leisure economy and nomadic tourism.
In line with Indonesia envision, BALI & BEYOND TRAVEL FAIR (BBTF) 2018 announced this year theme of “Exploring the Colors of Indonesia”. BBTF will hosted speakers that address the opportunities, trends by the industry insights as well as highlight the diversity of Indonesia’s cultures. The mesmerizing dances, cultures, traditions and the tempting natural attractions from tall volcanoes, endless roll waves, long white sand beaches stretched, hundreds of winding rivers slicing green rice fields, virgin forests closing peaks to underwater beauty and hypnotic wild life from the west end to the east end, and more.
Renowned as Indonesia’s leading International Travel and Tourism Fair which has been consistently supported by the Ministry of Tourism from its 1st year, BBTF brings sellers and buyers together in a single forum annually. This is the 5th year of BBTF – the event was initiated and organized by The Association of Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA) Bali chapter and until now is consider to be one of important Tourism fair in Indonesia.
BBTF 2018 will be held at a prestigious leading convention and exhibition Centre from 26-30 June 2018 - Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC) Bali - located within a secured beachfront enclave surrounded by many branded international hotels and resorts that are all within walking distance.
BBTF represents the full spectrum of tourism at all levels including the hospitality sector, tour operators or travel agencies, National Tourism Organizations, Convention and Visitors Bureaus, travel technology firms, MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) and corporate travel representatives as well as regional’s new destinations.
“Our biggest challenge is to build a harmonious synergy between all entities, local authorities and all sectors, thus creating the “Indonesia Incorporated” concept”, the Minister of Tourism of Indonesia, Mr. Arief Yahya said. “The weak links have to be addressed and resolved immediately, by considering the Penta-helix model (based on five stakeholders - businesses, public administration, local residents, the knowledge sector and capital). The success of Bali & Beyond Travel Fair (BBTF) since being launched represents the Penta-helix synergy that we are working on. This further motivated us to fully support BBTF, with its outstanding track record and proven performance as Indonesia’s leading international travel fair.” he added.

We have chosen the theme Exploring the Colours of Indonesia for this year’s event because we believe in Indonesia’s potential as Bali as the market place” I Ketut Ardana, the chairman of BBTF shared his thoughts. This year BBTF 2018 will have 320 buyers from 41 countries and 68 trade buyers which is consist of 63 domestic buyers hosted by Garuda Indonesia and 5 trade buyers, approximately 241 sellers included from 3 new countries that will participate, 36 international media and also dozens of national and local media will attend.
From the side of digital tourism; the trends of technology that are growing very rapidly nowadays are believed will give a big influence in the world of tourism Indonesia in the future. As an effort to keep pace with the development of the current digital era, BBTF is working together with Indonomo to use the registration, database and attendance in Cloud-based system so that all participants, both buyers and sellers, can conduct business transactions according to their schedule. From the final report on this system is expected to help BBTF in filtering and determine the market segment of the coming year, so it can be ascertained that the BBTF in 2019 will be more organized in a systematic and very sophisticated way.
The second target is to develop home stay village tourism program. With the increasing desire of tourists from abroad especially, who want to feel the life in the middle of rural Bali, is triggering BBTF committee for the first time this year also showcase 9 potential tourism village in Bali Province. Every tourism village that included the district area in Bali is required to participate in promoting the potential of its village. Each district sends a representative tourism village that will be shown interchangeably.
The purpose of the involvement of tourism villages in the BBTF event is to introduce to both domestic and foreign tourists the potential in the village, which is very pronounced its development can be seen from the increasing number of homestay in the area of tourist villages that have been able to rival 3 and 4 star hotels in urban areas.
In BBTF 2018, DPD Asita Bali Chapter invited the Badung Regency as co-host. Head of Tourism Office of Badung Regency, I Made Badra in a press conference last April stated that his party is consistent in supporting the success of Bali & Beyond Travel Fair 2018 event. The support is realized through the Government of Badung Regency has designed Sasana Culture Building which is located in Badung Regency Government Center. The 15,000-capacity building is projected to be the main venue for the implementation of BBTF every year. Badung regency government also facilitated 40 industrial enterprises in Badung region and 40 industrial enterprises from other regencies that will occupy Kampung Bali pavilion area in the Travel Expo (Travex) of BBTF.
This year, again BBTF will present 10 Priority Tourist Destination that was introduced a potential tourist destination in Indonesia. Promotion of tourism destination of Lake Toba North Sumatra, Tanjung Kelayang Bangka Belitung, Tanjung Lesung Banten, Kepulauan Seribu DKI Jakarta, Borobudur Temple in Jogjakarta, Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Malang East Java, Mandalika in Lombok, Komodo Labuan Bajo NTT, Wakatobi Southeast Sulawesi and Morotai North Maluku will all be displayed in a special area within the Travex BBTF.
BBTF 2018 has received Sababay Winery, Bali Sunshine Tours & Travel, ITDC, Hotel Alaya Ubud, Bali Xtreme Adventures, Indonomo, D & A Consulting, De Klumpu Bali, D'Umah Bali, Mövenpick Resort & Spa Jimbaran Bali, Nilamani Hotels, Grand Mirage Resort & Thalasso Bali, Nusa Dua Beach & Spa Bali and Hotel Nikko Bali as the main parties who have fully supported this event so it can be held well and as expected.
About BBTF 2018
BBTF is an annual event with the intention to establish a benchmark for travel & tourism events and destinations in Indonesia. Supported by the Ministry of Tourism Indonesia, BBTF held a B2B event and aims to advance the tourism industry through business sessions and direct promotion of best practices in MICE and Leisure management.
Together with exhibitors and buyers from numerous countries around the world, BBTF facilitates Pre-Scheduled Appointments (PSA) and business sessions for buyers and sellers to negotiate on their long-term leisure and corporate travel needs. Corporations, travel agents, hotel & resort chains, cruise operators, convention planners, venue operators and travel buyers can leverage the two and half days of business to business sessions to enhance their respective brands in the Indonesian and Asia Pacific markets.
In addition to the B2B sessions, the travel fair will have an extensive program of activities for all delegates. Association of the Indonesian Tours and Travel Agencies (ASITA) Bali chapter in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism Indonesia and with the co-hosting of Badung regency. This annual event is led by passionate 9 members of committees and supported by members of ASITA, public sectors and Government to promote and facilitate the tourism business and development. Member of ASITA BALI consists of 403 travel bureaus (BPW) and 13 associate members spread all over Bali. ASITA BALI is a member of Stakeholder of Indonesian Tourism Industry Association (GIPI) Bali or better known as Bali Tourism Board.
